15 Clues that you are in debt and need help

Do you feel like you are drowning in debt?  Do you think you need help?  There are ways to tell if your debt is getting to the point that you simply cannot continue on the way you have.  There are red flags and warning signs that you can look for to help you realise that it is now time to do something about your debt.  Here are fifteen warning signs that you should be aware of and seek help for your debt problems
  1. Your credit card balances continually increase regardless of the fact that you are making a steady income.  Or if your income decreases and your credit card balances continue to increase, there is a problem that needs attention right away.

  2. You are consistently making only the minimum payments on your credit cards and the balance never goes down.

  3. You ‘rob Peter to pay Paul’ and use your credit cards to shop for food or pay your utility bills.  This is a really big red flag.

  4. How many credit cards do you have?  If you said more than one and you have them all run up to the maximum credit limit, there is a problem.

  5. Having your cards run up to the maximum limit could cause over the limit fees among other fees, and that just adds to your debt.

  6. You carry a balance on all of your credit cards and do not pay them off each month.  This is a good sign that you are living beyond your means and spending way too much.

  7. You have to work overtime or take a second or even third job to simply pay off all of your credit card bills in addition to your regular monthly bills.

  8. You have no idea how much you owe your creditors and you are too afraid to call them to find out.  You should be afraid of your creditors, and this is a good sign that you need help getting your bills under control.

  9. If you start ignoring phone calls because they are from your creditors or you do not recognise the phone number on the caller id, then there is a problem.  This is a good sign that there are problems.

  10. You use your credit cards to pay for things like petrol and food and you cannot pay off the balance at the end of the month, leaving you with nothing to use to pay for these things or emergencies when you need it.  This is a big red flag.

  11. Your credit card is getting worn out because you use it to pay for everything and never use cash.

  12. Your savings account is getting lower and lower because you have been dipping into it to pay your bills.

  13. Your spouse or significant other has no idea how severe your bills are or you are lying to them about how much items cost.  This puts a big strain on your marriage and is one of the leading causes of separation and divorce.

  14. You accept every credit card offer that comes in the mail.  This is a good sign that you need to change your credit card habits.

  15. You are consistently worrying about money to the point that you are losing sleep and it affects your daily life. It’s time to get help for your debts.
